Game Vision Statement

Introduction

The game I’m creating is called house666. Just imagine you’re stuck in a haunted house in the woods and you need to escape that’s exactly what this game is and also you haven’t got to long, so you’ll have to be quick or you get caught.

Game Genre

This game is a horror / scary game depends what you like to call it. The game is based in an old house in the woods, the house is so called “house666” no one exactly knows where the name of the house came from. There have being stories of the house being haunted and scary stories about its past.

Description

There was a journalist in the year 1967 who wanted to have a look at the house for himself and get a write up about it. He didn’t believe that the house was haunted, so he wanted to go himself and take a look at it, of course him not believing it was haunted was going to change. When he first came on the grounds of the house he seen the name by the main gate “house666” which did worry him a bit but he didn’t let it stop him from entering. When he entered through the unlocked front door he got a vibe which he never felt before but he thought he was just paranoid, he continued on as he was determined to examine the house when he was looking around he found some weird looking notes laying around and some old creepy pictures on the wall. When he made it upstairs he seen what looked like red paint on the walls and this was when his fear really started to kick in. He wanted to leave but something didn’t allow him. He entered a room and when he entered he blacked out. When he wakes up the door in the room is locked, he has no light or anything, everything he had on him is gone all his got is the clothes on his back. From this point is were the player will play from and try escape “house666”.

Gameplay

The game will start with the player in a small room with a locked door, the first objective is to make it out of that room, the player will have to look around the room and try find the key to escape. When escaped from that room the player can explore the hallway upstairs and even go downstairs but the front door is locked with no way out. There is a bedroom upstairs in which the door is locked and the player will need to find the key to enter that room, this key could be located anywhere upstairs or downstairs so the player will have to find the key, from that room there will be a key to escape the house in there somewhere and it will be difficult to find. All this sounds rather easy but there will be things around to scare the player to make them waste their time, also of course as I said there’s a timer and all of this has to be done in a certain amount of time. Basically you escape in time you win if you don’t you lose, there is no checkpoints so if you lose you go back to the start. The thing that makes this game exciting and scary is that the player doesn’t know what’s around any corner and doesn’t know if they can be killed by a monster or ghost, this leaves the player always feeling uncertain of what’s next.

Sources

A few different things helped me to come up this game idea, probably the main game with the same fell to it is "Slender Man" I’ve mentioned this game in a previous blog and it’s a game I’ve played before and it was really enjoyable but terrifying.

Something else which gave me some inspiration is the Series on Netflix, "The Haunting of Hill House". This series was so scary because of the house being an old haunted house but what made this show different to others was the story it wasn’t like your typical horror were stuff is popping up and scaring you it was more the uncertainty of what’s going to happen next and seen things in the background of some shots. It was almost worse than jump scares because when a jump scare happens yes it does scare you but that’s kind of the climax this never really had that you were always left wondering and scared of what’s happening next.

This all inspired my game as first off all this is my first game I am creating I’m still just learning really so I don’t have the ability to make a crazy jump scare game with weapons and getting chased and whatever else. What I can do is though is make a game with a scary vibe and never letting the player know what’s next, the best thing is the player doesn’t know that they won’t be chased around the house or that something wont jump up so it always leaves them scared and waiting for something to happen.

Conclusion

I am excited to start developing this game and I can’t wait to see the end product.
